Yellow Four-Piece Mitt and Trivet Set

Yellow is the most conspicuous colour the range offers, and this is the full four-piece version of it: two 13.7-inch silicone mitts and two silicone trivets. The case for it is simple and it is not decorative. Kitchen safety equipment protects you only when you can see it from where you are standing.

Most kitchen burns are not equipment failures. They are the result of something hot needing to move now, with no mitt in sight and a tea towel within reach. A yellow set is the one that gets spotted from the doorway, which removes the improvisation step. In a household where several people cook, that matters more than the colour scheme does.

The mitts are moulded BPA-free silicone with a ridged grip surface, over a quilted cotton liner: sealed barrier and friction from the silicone, insulation and padding from the cotton. The trivets are the same silicone without a lining, because a surface that takes a hot pan does not need to be comfortable, only stable and heatproof.

A pale colour would be a problem in any absorbent material, but silicone does not absorb. What lands on these pieces sits on top of them and comes off with warm water and dish soap. The mitts can also go in the machine when the cotton lining has taken on more than a wipe will fix.
