Privacy

Most privacy policies are long because the site behind them does a great deal with visitors. This one is short for the opposite reason. homwe.net is a static catalogue: pre-built HTML files served to your browser. There is no account system, no login, no basket, no comment section, no newsletter and no form anywhere on the site. Nothing on these pages asks you for a name, an address or a payment detail, because nothing here could use one.

What we do not collect

• No personal data submitted by you — there is no field in which to submit any.
• No account, profile or purchase history. The site cannot tell a first visit from a hundredth.
• No payment information. Nothing is ever paid to this site; payment happens on Amazon.
• No advertising or social tracking pixels, and no third-party advertising network.
• No cookies set by this site for its own purposes — see Cookies.

What the host necessarily sees

The pages are served by a content delivery network, and any server that delivers a file records the request that asked for it. That technical log typically holds an IP address, a timestamp, the page requested, a browser user-agent string and the referring page, and it is what makes it possible to serve traffic, cache pages and absorb attacks. It is a normal function of hosting rather than a feature of this site, we do not use it to build a profile of you, and we do not combine it with anything else.

The provider may also set a strictly technical cookie for security and load-balancing on its own account. That mechanism is described under Cookies.

What happens when you click a buy button

You leave this site and arrive on Amazon, and Amazon’s own privacy policy and cookie practices apply from that moment. The link carries an affiliate identifier so that a resulting purchase can be attributed to this site — that is how the catalogue is funded, and it is disclosed in the footer of every page and on About.

What we receive back is worth stating precisely, because it is much less than people assume. Amazon reports aggregate figures: how many clicks arrived, how many items were ordered, what commission is due. Those reports do not identify who clicked, and we never learn your name, your address, your payment method or the contents of your basket. If you buy something, no data about you reaches this site.

Your rights, and the practical problem with them

You have the rights you would expect over your personal data — access, correction, erasure, objection — and we will act on any request we can. The honest difficulty is that we hold no personal data to act on: with no accounts and no forms, there is no record here tied to you to retrieve or delete. A request about data collected while you were on Amazon has to go to Amazon, which holds it.

Children

The site is a shopping catalogue for household goods and is not directed at children. Since it collects nothing from anyone, it collects nothing from children either.

Changes

If this ever stops being accurate — if analytics or any other script were added, for instance — this page would be rewritten in the same rebuild that added it, because the policy is part of the site rather than a document filed away from it. It describes what the site does today.
