Oven heat and hob heat are two different problems. The oven needs a cuff that goes past the wrist, because the hazard is the shelf edge and the roof of the oven, not the dish. The hob needs something small and flat that you can pinch a lid with and then put down under the pan. This is the pairing of both, two of each, in one colour.
That makes it the sensible first purchase for a kitchen with nothing in it. Bought separately the same four pieces arrive as two orders, usually in two colours that do not match, and almost always with one of the two jobs left uncovered for a few weeks because the second order never quite happens.
Both halves are built the same way as the individual products in this catalogue: a textured silicone outer over an insulating liner, with the pocketed squares doubling as counter trivets when they are not on a hand.
