Green Long-Cuff Silicone Mitts

Green is the middle option in this range: enough colour to find the mitt without effort, not so much that it dominates the counter. The tone is a deep leaf rather than a lime, which means it holds its own next to wood and terracotta and does not clash with the greenery most kitchens already have on the windowsill.

The mitt is a moulded BPA-free silicone shell with a ridged grip pattern across the palm and finger pads, over a quilted cotton liner. The ridges give the glove purchase on the smooth glazed surfaces that cause most dropped-dish accidents; the liner is what actually holds the heat off your hand and what makes the mitt bearable to wear for a long bake.

Being silicone, the outside is sealed. Nothing soaks in, which is the reason this style has largely displaced woven mitts for stovetop work: steam from a lifted lid and water from a drained pan stay on the surface instead of reaching skin. It is also why the mitt cleans up in seconds under a soapy cloth.
