Gray Pocketed Pot Holders, Pair

Pot holders tend to live in the open, on a rail or draped over an oven handle, which makes their colour a decision about the kitchen rather than about the equipment. Mid-grey is the version of this pair that does not ask for attention. Two squares, ten by seven inches, each one a glove or a trivet depending on how you use it.

Grey ages better than either extreme. Cream goes grubby-looking, black eventually shows pale heat marks where it has touched a burner, and grey does neither in any obvious way. Against stainless steel, concrete, white units or pale timber it sits without argument, which is why it is the safe choice when the pair will be on display.

The construction is the same across the colours: a silicone outer face with a raised non-slip pattern, a pocket split at the fingertips for real grip, and a terrycloth lining behind it. Terry is looped cotton and the loops trap air, which is what insulates; the silicone stops steam and spilled liquid from reaching that cotton at all.

Care differs by colour on these and the grey pair is one of the hand wash only ones, along with black and red; the navy and aqua turquoise pairs are listed machine wash. Warm water and dish soap on the silicone deals with normal kitchen use, and the terry lining stays clean because the silicone stops most of what would otherwise soak into it.
